Two choirs to represent Taiwan at Hungary's Cantemus International Choral Festival

The Taipei Philharmonic Chamber Choir (台北愛樂室內合唱團) and the Puzangalan Children's Choir (屏東希望兒童合唱團) will be representing Taiwan in online performances at Hungary's Cantemus International Choral Festival, which is held every two years, on June 21 at 1:00am Taiwan Time.

The 13th Cantemus International Chorus Festival was supposed to be held last year, but was postponed for a year due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Europe. In light of the ongoing pandemic, an online charity concert was held instead, with funds raised to be donated to local hospitals to help fight the pandemic.

In addition to Hungary’s local Cantemus choirs, it also invited choirs from the Philippines, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Spain, South Africa, Indonesia, Sweden and Taiwan to present pre-recorded performances online this year.

Music Director of Taipei Philharmonic Chorus Ku Yu-chung (古育仲) noted that the Cantemus International Choral Festival is a renowned international festival, and the Cantemus Children's Choir has won more than 20 international championships as one of the world’s leading children’s choirs. Ku added that, they are very honored to be invited to participate in this online concert.

In addition, Ku announced that due to the pandemic, Asia's largest annual summer choral festivals, the Taipei International Choral Festival and the Taipei International Choral Competition, will be moved online, in addition to plans to launch a new series of online seminars.

The Taipei Philharmonic Chamber Choir was invited twice to perform in 2007 and 2014, and the Puzangalan Children’s Choir performed in 2016.
