Four films by Taiwanese director Zero Chou to be screened at Spain Moving Images Festival

As part of the 6th edition of the Spain Moving Images Festival (SMIF), Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain join hands with SMIF to organize a virtual film screening event titled "On the Limits of Desire (慾望的界線)," featuring four fiction films by Taiwanese film director Zero Chou (周美玲), including "Spider Lilies (刺青)," "Drifting Flowers (漂浪青春)," "Ripples of Desire (花漾)," and "Wrath of Desire (愛・殺)." The films will be screened virtually from Oct. 2 to 10.

Two online symposiums will be held, exploring the current work situation of female directors in Taiwan and Spain, as well as the performance methods of the "Wrath of Desire" through SMIF ON channel on SMIF’s website. The meetings will be available for viewing on the festival's website under the "Activities" section. Those present at the meetings include Ana Pérez de la Fuente、Marta Arribas, who are the filmmakers of the famous Spanish documentary "Sanmao (三毛)," and David Adenjo Conde, a Spanish scholar of gender studies.

Chou's favorite work "Wrath of Desire," an LGBTQ+ crime drama film, depicts the real, raw desires between lesbians with intricate, life-like details, which is set to premiere in Southern Europe.

Chou is one of the most famous female directors in Taiwan and was awarded the Teddy Award at the Berlin International Film Festival for the best LGTBIQ+ themed film in 2007 for her film "Spider Lilies."

Established in 2016, the festival mainly presents Asian movies with the aim of promoting exchanges of films and contemporary art between Spain and the international. This year, it is slated to screen more than 20 films from 11 countries.
