Solo exhibition by Taiwanese artist Fu Ya-wen to explore the invisible power relations

In collaboration with the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany, German-based Taiwanese artist Fu Ya-wen (傅雅雯) will hold her solo exhibition "The 'Perfect Path' of a Swing" at the D21 Art Space from Nov. 5 to 7.

During the exhibition period, Fu Ya-wen will also perform a live installation performance with German actor Wolfgang Zarnack and Spanish audiovisual artist Daniel Romero.

The installations on display are constantly changing into different forms, for example, the fist-shaped objects that are hanging from the ceiling spins at varying speed. Gradually, their forms reshape due to the constant knocking and collision of the objects. These objects come in various sizes, while some were molded from ice. As the ice starts to melt, the objects deform and disappear – signifying the disappearance and invisibility of power. It also resonates with the theme of how intertwined layers of power metamorphose into different forms.

The Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany pointed out that the D21 Art Space was established in April 2006, it is an important contemporary art space in Leipzig, Germany. The art space focuses on international exhibition plans, primarily from the fields of new media, installation artworks, and performing arts. The art space holds several exhibitions every year, and invites international artists with potential to participate in discussions and plans for exhibition. Thus far, the art space has invited artists from European countries as well as countries in the Americas.

Fu Ya-wen graduated with a Master's degree in Media Arts at the HGB Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig. Over the years, her work has been shown internationally at the Media Art Biennale in Poland and the Dresden Art Biennale in Germany. She also won the first prize of the Leipzig art award in Germany in 2007. In 2020, her artwork "Ein verwandelter Wurf (變形記)" was selected to feature in the German Cynetart Festival for International Media Art as well as the POCHEN Biennale event.
