Performance by Taiwanese choreographer Liu Fang-yi premieres in Germany

Taiwanese choreographer Liu Fang-yi (劉方怡) will present her work "Erzählte Erinnerungen: Tausend Worte (記憶敘事:千言萬語)," which illustrates the historical context of Taiwan-China relations through art, in Germany with the support from the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany and Germany's Theater Altenburg Gera. The choreographic work was premiered at the Bühne am Park Gera in Germany on June 9, and it will be performed at the Theater Altenburg Gera in July.

With the theme of "Erzählte Erinnerungen (which means narrative memory)," Liu and Japanese dancer Yuri Hamano choreographed two dance works respectively. Inspired by the culture and land of her hometown in Taiwan, Liu created the work titled "Tausend Worte (which means a thousand words)," which will be performed by seven dancers from Germany's ballet group, Eleven des Thüringer Staatsballetts.

Liu created the work based on her own experiences of growing up and family history, depicting indescribable situations occurring between Taiwan and China. She attempts to make use of the angle of art to allow the foreign audience to understand the complicated political relationships between the two nations. She believes that local audiences will be moved by this work that contains sadness and the pursuit of freedom of life.

Liu Fang-yi has been residing in Germany for nearly 20 years. As a new talent in modern European dance, she currently serves as a solo dancer at Germany’s Leipziger Ballett (Leipzig Ballet). In recent years, she focuses on dance choreography, and her works have been invited to perform all over the world.
