Under the concept of integrating cultural content and commercial trade, the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) will jointly participate in the 2022 Maison & Objet Paris (M&O) from Sep. 8 to Sep. 12 at Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition center.

With its "Meta Sensible" theme, the September edition of M&O reconciles the seemingly contradictory aspirations of our time, torn between a yearning to escape to an idealized digital environment and a desire to fully embrace the real world. A total of 17 Taiwanese craft and design brands will exhibit different types of contemporary crafts such as metalwork, pottery, indigo dyeing, wooden crafts, lacquer art, and other genres of modern craftsmanship, showcasing Taiwanese culture and responding to global sustainability issues at the same time.

In response to the theme, Taiwanese participants will present their works under the concept of "The Taiwanese Crafts Equation," using mathematical equations to express the efforts made by Taiwanese craftsmen during the chaotic times and also present the idea of "Meta Crafting."

Director of NTCRI Chang Jen-chi (張仁吉) said they invited curator Cyril Zammit to curate the theme of "The Taiwanese Crafts Equation." In the era of war, post-pandemic, and global warming, we are faced with numerous variables. One of them is the environment, therefore, natural and recyclable eco-friendly materials were used in the displayed works.

M&O is the major event for professionals working in the art of living in all its rich and varied expressions. The lifestyle show brings together a 360-degree product offering such as decoration, design, furniture, accessories, textiles, and fragrances. Twice a year, the leading stakeholders in the lifestyle, home and decor sector gather at M&O to make connections, seal deals and define future trends.
