NTMoFA to launch 'Eye of the storm' exhibition in France

Organized by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the exhibition "Eye of the storm (暴風之眼)" will be held at Le Lieu Unique, the national center for contemporary arts and music venue in Nantes, France, from Oct. 7, 2022, to Jan. 8, 2023.

In response to the volatile politics and pandemic that have affected the world over the past three years, the exhibition explores Taiwan’s vibrant and diverse contemporary art scene, echoing the daily concerns of its population, as well as the interactions between the island and its environment. It will present ordinary, everyday life where celebrations and disaster coexist, and lingers on the interactions between the individual and the collective in our globalized world. Taiwan has formed a challenging artistic vision by deconstructing and re-creating its own cultural history, to face the uncertain future with a positive attitude.

Seven artists have been invited to join the exhibition, including Yuan Goang-ming (袁廣鳴), Chang Li-ren (張立人), Huang Hai-hsin (黃海欣), Yao Jui-chung (姚瑞中), Wang Yu-chen (王郁媜), Su Hui-yu (蘇匯宇), Wang Lien-cheng (王連晟). Born in the postwar period, they had gone through the era of democracy and freedom after Taiwan's martial law. With the experience, they have not only cultivated professional artistic abilities, but also actively participated in international art events.

Works on display will include "Brain Dead Travelogue (腦殘遊記- 臨趙伯駒「江山秋色圖」)" by Yao Jui-chung, "Reading Plan (閱讀計畫)" by Wang Lien-cheng, "If there is a place I haven't been to (未曾來過)" by Wang Yu-chen as well as two of Yuan Goang-ming's works-"Dwelling (棲居如詩)" and "Everyday Maneuver (日常演練)," and more.

Established in 2020, le lieu unique has become a utopian living space where conviviality meets the most contemporary forms of creativity, a space of artistic exploration, of cultural effervescence that mixes genres, cultures and people.
