Ten Taiwanese films have been selected to be screened at the 2022 London East Asia Film Festival (LEAFF) from Oct. 22 through 29 at five venues around London.
This year's program includes the cinematic offerings of China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia and consists of seven strands: Official Selection, Competition, Documentary Competition, Actor Focus: Lee Jung-Jae, Filmmaker Focus: Cinematographer Mark Lee, Classics Restored and Halloween Horror Special.
The lineup of Taiwanese films includes "Fantasy·World (童話‧世界)" by director Freddy Tang Fu-jui (唐福睿), "Goddamned Asura (該死的阿修羅)" by director Lou Yi-an (樓一安), "The Abandoned (查無此心)" by director Tseng Ying-ting (曾英庭), "Salute (我心我行)" by Yao Hung-I (姚宏易), "Mama Boy (初戀慢半拍)" by Arvin Chen (陳駿霖), "Far Away Eyes (幻日手記)" by Wang Chun-hong (王君弘), "The Funeral (頭七)" by Shen Dan-Quei (沈丹桂), and more.
Continuing its mission of introducing important filmmakers to local audiences, the LEAFF shines a light on Taiwanese cinematographers for the first time, featuring a selection of classic titles under the strand "Filmmaker Focus: Cinematographer Mark Lee" to focus on the life and works of Mark Lee (李屏賓). Born in 1954, Lee is a world-acclaimed Taiwanese cinematographer, with numerous awards to his credit, including the Grand Technical Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival, and others.
The London East Asia Film Festival was established in 2015 as a non-profit arts organization to champion the growing collaboration and diversity in East Asian filmmaking. Returning this year for its seventh edition, the festival will run from Oct. 19 through 30.
