Organized by Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) and co-organized by Taipei Book Fair Foundation, Taiwan Pavilion will return to this year's Frankfurt Book Fair, which will take place from Oct. 19 to 23.
Visual artist Page Tsou (鄒駿昇), the first prize winner of the International Award for Illustration Bologna Children's Book Fair - Fundación SM, has been invited to create the overall vision of the Taiwan Pavilion titled "Taiwan Story Salon." Echoing the organizer's theme "Words Connect," he takes "salon" as the visual theme to showcase the diverse imagery of the Taiwan Story Salon.
With the yearly theme "Beyond Books, Stories Ahead," visitors are welcome to check out the recommended titles and immerse themselves in stories from Taiwan. In addition to books, there are also featured authors and IP innovations. The three featured authors include Chang Yi-hsum (張亦絢), Chen Po-ching (陳栢青) and Animo Chen (阿尼默).
Chang Yi-hsum is a well-known advocate of queer writing. She is the winner of many literary awards in Taiwan, and her works include: "I'am Leaving (在我不在的時代)," "Not in Love for Long: Recollections of Nantes and Paris (愛的不久時：南特/巴黎回憶錄)," "Herstory of Sex (性意思史)," and "100 Objects of Emotion (感情百物)," and more.
Chen Po-ching is recognized by local media as one of the most promising novelists under 40 in Taiwan. In his novels "The Rubber Chicken Club (尖叫連線)," and in his essay collection "Mr. Adult (大人先生)," he subverts mainstream values by turning to subcultures. As a gay man who spent his teen years in the 1990s, he is known for his sarcastic but profoundly sad writing style.
Animo Chen’s first-ever exclusive collection of comics "The Short Elegy (小輓)" won the 2020 BolognaRagazzi Award for Comics - Young Adult. His latest work "Love Letter (情書)," a Taiwanese-language illustrated poem, won him another BolognaRagazzi Award – the Special Mention in the 2021 Special Category – Poetry.
