Taiwanese artist Huang Ya-nung presents latest project in Barcelona

The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain together with Homesession Artspace & Artist in residence Barcelona will organize an exhibition to present artist Huang Ya-nung (黃雅農)'s latest project "QUARTET" as part of the artist-in-residence program. The exhibition will be taking place at Homesession in Barcelona on Oct. 27 and 28. In addition, Huang will be presenting the results of "QUARTET" with artist Tsung-yun Lai (賴宗昀) on Oct. 27.

"QUARTET" forms a soundscape through traditional instruments (suona and gralla), field recordings and radio wave receivers to explore interpersonal communication. the installation is an experimental exercise structured in four parts, each one focused on a different relational aspect: the relationship between a territory and the people who travel through it, the relationship between body and space, between people and the link between sound and music.

Huang is a multi-disciplinary artist who works with video, sound, space and body. She is also specialized in the instrument "Suona." With years of traditional music training and experiences in the orchestra, ensemble, and concerto, Huang tends to create unconventional works such as mixing traditional and contemporary musical performance methods.

Since 2010, Homesession has been organizing the "Invited One day" event. Artists or curators are invited by the founders to have a talk with the artists-in-residence, and activities like exhibitions, performances, and video screenings are also held. The Cultural Division in Spain has been sending Taiwanese artists to participate in the two-month residency program since 2015 and received positive responses from art professionals and the locals. The Cultural Division in Spain hopes that through the in-depth exchanges, artists would be able to represent Taiwan on the international stage and promote Taiwanese culture.
