Golden Horse-winning short film to screen at Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh

The Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh is back for its third edition, bringing the audience an all-year-round Taiwanese cinema experience starting in March at venues across Scotland. This November and December, the upcoming screenings include "Can You Hear Me? (講話沒有在聽)," a film by Director Li Nien-hsiu (李念修) which recently won the Best Live Action Short Film at the 59th Golden Horse Awards.

The Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh will return at the end of November to the Cromarty Cinema in Black Isle to showcase some of the carefully-selected Taiwanese short films. Taiwanese classics such as "The Fantasy of Deer Warrior (大俠梅花鹿)" by Director Chang Ying (張英) and "Onstage Appearance (隨片登台)" by Director Lin Ya-yu (林亞佑) will be presented at the Centre of Contemporary Arts in Glasgow.

"Onstage Appearance" is part of the collaborative project "Somewhere 4 Some Time (4x相識)" by the Taiwan Public Television Service and Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute. The project is a tribute to Taiwanese classic films while "Onstage Appearance" is a work that introduces the golden era of Taiwanese films through interviews with movie star Bai Hong (白虹).

The Festival will end at The Birks Cinema in Aberfeldy with screenings of short films including "A Cockerel's Tale (雄雞卡克)" by Director Hsieh Pei-ju (謝沛如), who won Best Directing for a Miniseries or Television Film at the Golden Bell Awards.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Taipei Representative Office in the UK has organized the annual Taiwan Film Festival Edinburgh since 2020. In April this year, the Festival collaborated with the Hong Kong Film Festival UK and screened documentaries from Taiwan and Hong Kong including "The Price of Democracy (狂飆一夢)," "Revolution of Our Times (時代革命)," and "May you Stay Forever Young (少年)."
