Taiwanese artist to join Barcelona residency program in September

To expand opportunities for Taiwanese artists in the arts and cultural community of Spain, the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain has been collaborating with Homesession Artspace to launch an artist-in-residence program. This year, one visual artist or curator from Taiwan will be selected for the two-month residency from September to October in Barcelona, Spain.

According to the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, following the first collaboration in 2015, Homesession has welcomed Taiwanese artists including Huang Yu-hang (黃郁涵), Veeeky Wei-chia Wu (吳維佳), Chao Shu-jung (趙書榕), Huang Ya-nung (黃雅農), curators Cheng Shao-hung (程少鴻), and Wang Chun-chi (王俊琪).

Homesession offers the artists housing and working space, and provides guidance on the creation or curating process. It also creates networking opportunities for artists like periodic meetings and visits to galleries as well as cultural events in Barcelona; while the Ministry of Culture will cover the international travel expenses, living allowances, and project fees. Located in the center of Barcelona, Homesession is established by French curators Olivier Collet and Jérôme Lefaure in 2007, providing artists and curators who can work independently with a semi-open exhibition area.

Applications for the 2023 Homesession residency program in Barcelona will be accepted through Apr. 30. Conceptual artists and new media artists working on creating and researching social and political issues are encouraged to apply for the program.
