Taiwanese comic artist to join Spain's residency program in September

Comic artist Evergreen Yeh (葉長青) has been chosen to participate in the artist-in-residence program which is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Spain's art platform Hablar en Arte. Yeh will begin his two-month residency program starting from September this year at Hablar en Arte in Spain.

Yeh is an illustrator, comic artist, and lecturer at the Department of Landscape Architecture of Chung Yuan Christian University. In 2021, his work "Mayfly Island (蜉蝣之島)" won Bronze Prize at the 15th Japan International Manga Award, and sold its French-language publishing rights. In 2022, he was invited to join the Taiwan Pavilion at the Angoulême International Comics Festival (安古蘭漫畫節) as an exhibiting artist. Yeh often creates works with the theme of fantasy and deities, exploring the themes of ghosts and folklore in Spain and combining them with the local landscape to create a comic. Yeh also studies how Spain merges contemporary art with creative work to make a more artistic expression.

Hablar en Arte is an art platform located in Madrid, Spain. Founded in 2002, the non-profit association aims to foster social innovation and the selected artist will have the chance to exchange with other comic artists from all over the world, meet with local professional comic artists, visit the comic fair Madrid Comic Pop-up, and participate in other related events arranged by Hablar en Arte.

Since 2015, MOC has been collaborating with Angoulême residency, bd BOUM - Maison de la bd (House of the Comic Strip), Hablar en Arte, and Kitakyushu City, Japan to launch residency programs. To date, a total of 22 comic artists have been selected. It is hoped that the residency program can spark creativity and international cooperation opportunities for comic artists, and continue to develop the diverse and rich style of Taiwanese comics.
