Turntable, fragrance to join Taiwan Pavilion at MIDEM

Representing Taiwan this year at one of the world's largest music trade fairs - MIDEM (Marché International du Disque et de l'Edition Musicale) - are The Chairman band (董事長樂團), alternative rock ensemble Mixer (麋先生), and DJ QuestionMark (DJ問號), as well as a crowdfunded turntable project and a fragrance startup company.

The Chairman is one of the most veteran bands of musicians in Taiwan, having been part of the island's underground rock scene since the lifting of martial law in the 1980s. With a keen appreciation for contemporary punk and post-rock sounds, The Chairman backs Taiwanese and Chinese vocals with electronic elements, cementing its status in the island's indie rock scene.

True to its name, Mixer is known for its eclectic mashup of music genres and unconventional arrangements. Such compositions also give rise to an unusual distribution of stage time among all band members, earning Mixer the moniker of "the most democratic” of all Taiwanese rock groups.

DJ QuestionMark is an open-format DJ, turntablist, and producer who also serves as music director of London-based fashion label APUJAN. When it comes to interdisciplinary music and projects, the 2011 DMC Taiwan champion and 2013 Redbull Thre3style finalist is as unpredictable as he is talented.

DJ QuestionMark is also one of the guys behind the crowdfunding project Spinbox, a cardboard ensemble touted as "a portable DIY turntable unlike any before.” Spinbox will join ALIZ, a Taiwanese fragrance brand that produces scented music albums and paraphilia, at the Taiwan Pavilion at MIDEM.

The Chairman, Mixer, and DJ QuestionMark will perform at MIDEM in Cannes on June 8 and then hold two concerts in Paris on June 11.
