Three Taiwanese groups — Meimage Dance, B. DANCE (丞舞製作團隊), and In Theater (在劇場) — will join the 2016 Internationale Tanzmesse NRW, a world-leading dance fair running from Aug. 31 through Sept. 3 in Düsseldorf.
This year will mark the 5th appearance of Taiwanese performance groups in the biennial dance festival. Taiwan first joined in 2008 and has since been regularly selected to join the performance program with artists from countries across the world.
Led by choreographer Ho Hsiao-mei (何曉玫), Meimage Dance will perform "Camouflage (假裝),” a contemporary work that explores human subconscious and how everyone uses camouflage as a way to face the world, on Sept. 1.
On the following day, B. DANCE founded by Benson Po-cheng Tsai (蔡博丞) will present "Hugin / Munin (想法與記憶),” a duet inspired by Norse mythology. The production has won first prize in choreography competitions in New York and Denmark.
In Theatre will stage the production "Tschuess!! Bunny (再見吧! 兔子)” choreographed by Liu Yen-cheng (劉彥成) on Sept. 3, the last day of the festival. The work will explore the idea of life and death, and the concept of death as rebirth.
During the festival, the National Theater and Concert Hall will also hold an exhibition booth at dance venues to introduce and promote Taiwanese dance troupes through promotional materials such as the 2016 "Dance in Taiwan (舞之台灣)” DVD sets.
Established in 1994, the Internationale Tanzmesse NRW is the largest contemporary dance festival in the world. Held every two years, it features participating professionals from over 50 countries.
