Taiwanese crafts will take the center stage in Paris from May 30 through June 5 as Taiwan makes its appearance as theme nation of the 2016 D'Days design exhibition in France.
In a joint venture with Hand in Hand, a French creative platform, the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute will unveil an array of inspired crafts created by French designers and Taiwanese artisans.
The Taiwan-themed events at the 2016 D'Days will include "Taiwan - Unfolding,” an exhibition offering a playful and instructive look at crafts made with Taiwanese paper; and "Taiwan - Diverse: Bamboo Wearables,” a presentation of the wide-reaching applications of Taiwanese bamboo in such fields as jewelry, accessories, lifestyle products, and design wear.
There will also be two exhibitions displaying crafts by industrial design students from Shih Chien University (實踐大學) and eco-responsible luxury products made by up-cycling designers from Henry Hsiao's (蕭光廷) nbt.STUDIO.
Rounding up the Taiwan-themed events will be a bamboo crafts workshop and two design forums respectively presided by Ben Chiu (邱乾珉), curator of Taiwan Designers' Week, and nbt.STUDIO's Hsiao.
