Taiwanese-German creative symposium slated for Berlin

A marathon of cultural experimentation among representatives of Taiwanese and German creative sectors will kick off in Berlin on June 23 and 24. The ensuing breakthroughs and insights will then be shared with the public through traveling exhibitions and digital outlets.

The project was initiated by the Taiwan Life Aesthetics Foundation (臺灣生活美學基金會), managing operator of Taiwan's newly launched Contemporary Culture Lab ("C-Lab"), with support from Berlin-based Taiwanese strategy designer Deng Ying-chih (鄧英志) and 48Hours Neukölln, a discursive arts festival for all conceivable artistic disciplines found in Berlin.

The project seeks to create a platform for long-term Taiwanese-German collaboration in civic participation and the arts while seeking new inspirations for the five main laboratories at C-Lab — namely ones for contemporary art, digital culture, audiovisual arts, memory engineering, and social innovation.

"A Taiwanese-German Creativity Symposium" will take place in three parts at 48Hours Neuklön, beginning with a June 23 convention gathering leading specialists from both nations. The event will be streamed live over the internet and a copy of the video will be uploaded for viewers to watch.

An open house event will be held alongside the symposium, in which visitors will be provided with materials on Taiwanese culture and conduct their own cultural experiments. Staff members will also be on site to provide explanations.

A two-day showcase on June 23 and 24 will then use digital displays to discuss (1) energy and culture, (2) circular cultural economy, and (3) blockchain applications in culture. Emphasis will be placed on sustainability, civic participation, and the environment from a Taiwanese perspective.

Materials and feedback from the symposium, open house, and showcase will all be gathered and stored online as part of a "digital museum" maintained by 48 hours Neukölln, offering border-free access around the clock.
