15th Vancouver Taiwanese Film Festival to feature eight Taiwanese films online

The 15th Vancouver Taiwanese Film Festival (TWFF), focusing on the theme "reacquaintance," will take place online this year, with eight Taiwanese films accessible to viewers across Canada from Sep. 10 through Sep. 19.

TWFF will feature the drama films "Detention (返校)," a political psycho-horror flick set during the 1960s; "My Missing Valentine (消失的情人節)," a time-shifting romantic comedy about the loneliness and growth of modern people; "The Silent Forest (無聲)," based on a real sexual assault case; "Dear Tenant (親愛的房客)," a moving drama about the love found within LGBT families, as well as the documentaries "Wild Island (男人與他的海)," "A Life That Sings (如歌的行板)," "The Way Home (阿查依蘭的呼喚)," and "The Good Daughter (阿紫)."

At the same time, the TWFF will be holding four panels that are free to register on the topics "Deep Ocean Connection," "We Have More In Common," "Our Future Together," and "Redefining Family."

TWFF will also feature four short films from Taiwan and North America on Sep. 11, including "Backlight (陽光和煦的午後)," "Turn Around and Run (少年偷竊記)," "A Story for Her (關於瑪莉)," "Hello From Taiwan (你好,從台灣來的)."

The theme of "reacquaintance" was drawn from the iconic Taiwanese poet Ya Hsien's poem "A Life That Sings,” which one of the documentaries featured at this year's festival was named after. TWFF hopes to highlight the different disadvantaged groups through the films, so that the audience can have an in-depth understanding of related issues, and in turn foster multi-party dialogues, and bring the communities together.

Founded in 2007, the Vancouver Taiwanese Film Festival (TWFF) is an annual non-profit arts and cultures initiative. It has been well-received by the Vancouver communities, and has over time become one of the largest film festivals with a focus on Taiwanese cinema in North America.
