Taiwanese new media Artist Huang Hsin-chien (黃心健) is set to hold his inaugural solo exhibition titled "The Data We Called Home" at the Pratt Manhattan Gallery in New York City.

The exhibition will showcase four large-scale virtual reality (VR) journeys to display Huang's award-winning works in recent years, including "Samsara (輪迴)," "Bodyless (失身記)," "To the Moon (登月)," and "La Camera Insabbiata/ Chalkroom (沙中房間)," along with stainless steel sculpture "Yun Kong (蘊空)" and 3-D prints "Sculpture of Touch (觸摸系列)," leading the audience into the otherworldly spaces, stories and forms reimagined by Huang.

Huang shared that this exhibition was inspired by his previous teaching experience as a visiting professor at one of New York's finest art schools when he was a Fulbright scholar. He attempts to highlight the broad scope of his work, featuring VR films, sculptures, and interactive devices that present new perspectives on the immersive possibilities of mixed media art practices.

According to the Director of the Taipei Cultural Center in New York Chang Hui-chun (張惠君), Huang is a pioneer in the field of Taiwanese VR art and has drawn global attention. It is a rare opportunity to see multiple of Huang's works displayed at the inaugural exhibition in New York, and people can be seen wearing VR devices on the streets.

"The Data We Called Home" is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Taipei City's Department of Cultural Affairs, National Taiwan Normal University, and the Pratt Institute. The exhibition will run through March 4, 2023. For more information, please visit the official website of the Pratt Manhattan Gallery.
