2022 GTI Taiwan Film Week kicks off with new podcast series

From Oct. 21 to 29, the Global Taiwan Institute (GTI) will feature a diverse selection of eight Taiwanese films and documentaries, as well as Q&A sessions with the directors of two selected films as part of the 2022 Taiwanese Film Week, GTI's third annual virtual film festival. All will be streamed for free on Vimeo.

The lineup includes "Jang-Gae: The Foreigner (醬狗)," "Life For Sale (售命)," "Qalang (Sing First, Think After) (部落)," "Final Exam (期末考)," "Unfulfilled Dreams (願未央)," "As We Like It (揭大歡喜)," "At Your Service (教練)," and "Crossing's End (彼岸)."

The two Q&A sessions will feature Chang Chih-wei (張智瑋), the director of "Jang-Gae: The Foreigner," and Shih Yu-lun (施佑倫), the director of "Crossing's End." The discussions will be available to viewers worldwide on Youtube.

Additionally, from August to November, the GTI will host a limited podcast series called "Taiwan Salon" to delve deeper into the linkages between culture, policy, and international outreach, with each episode spanning roughly 25 to 30 minutes.

Sponsored by the Spotlight Taiwan Project of the Ministry of Culture, "Taiwanese Film Week" aims to highlight Taiwan’s diverse culture and unique heritage. The screenings also offer a rare opportunity for the audience from the United States to appreciate prominent Taiwanese filmmakers' works. The goal of the "Taiwan Salon" is to illuminate how Taiwan's unique history and culture interact with policy and to pinpoint opportunities and challenges for future “soft” engagement between Taiwan and the United States.

All screenings and Q&A sessions will be free of charge. Each film screening will require registration in advance in order to acquire a URL link containing a promotion code. Please make sure to submit your registration in advance as some movies will have limited capacity. Only those currently located in the United States will be able to watch the films. There are no geographic restrictions for the Q&A sessions with film directors.
