Taiwanese cultural fest slated for Toronto, Vancouver

TAIWANfest 2016, a major cultural festival in Canada for those who wish to experience Taiwanese culture, will take place in Toronto this August and travel to Vancouver in September.

With support from the Ministry of Culture, the festival will unveil a series of cultural events, including performances, lectures, food stalls, art exhibitions, and traditional Chinese games this year.

Popular night market snacks like bubble milk tea as well as the more unique Hakka cuisine and high mountain tea will be offered, and visitors can learn how to play the ubiquitous and addicting Chinese tile game mahjong.

Funk jazz band Cosmos People (宇宙人) and electro-dance duo Utopia (世外桃源樂團) will also travel to Toronto and Vancouver to perform with local musicians.

TAIWANfest was first launched in 1990 by Taiwanese immigrants and their descendants in Canada. It has grown from a music event to today's grand cultural festival, but remains dedicated to introducing Taiwanese culture to the general public and promoting mutual understanding between Taiwan and Canada through cultural activities.
