As part of the Hello Taiwan Tour 2016, seven Taiwanese music acts will take to the East Coast from May 18 through 26 and offer concerts in Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York.
The lineup includes Paramount (百樂門), a fusion band that takes inspiration from traditional Chinese instruments and Western pop elements, hip-hop group CK-700 (赤崁少年), and rappers Lil Man (小人), Buzz Rhyme (BR), Handsome (韓森), RPG, and Dwagie (大支).
Each hip-hop artist is unique in style. Lil Man does not adhere to the usual hip-hop conventions; BR is a freestyler; Handsome is a powerful lyricist; RPG doubles as a discographer and producer; and Dwagie is a frequent collaborator with international acts.
The 2016 tour will take them to Richmond, DC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York City, and a portion of the earnings will go to a foundation to assist those in need. Last year, the donations went to the Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation (陽光基金會) to help those injured in a fiery waterpark explosion at Formosa Fun Coast.
Hello Taiwan was established in 2010 by members of the New York Taiwanese American community. The annual concert was expanded into a music tour in 2012 and became tied to the Passport to Taiwan Festival, which takes place on Union Square each year to celebrate Taiwanese American Heritage Week.
