The inaugural season of Asian Pop-Up Cinema in Chicago will kick off with a two-day screening of "Meeting Dr. Sun (行動代號：孫中山)” directed by Taiwanese director Yee Chih-yen (易智言) on Oct. 6 and 7.
Starring Zhan Huai-yun (詹懷雲), Matthew Wei (魏漢鼎), and Joseph Chang (張孝全), "Meeting Dr. Sun” is a heist comedy depicting a battle of wits between two senior high school students who seek to make some extra cash by stealing and pawning a bronze statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen in their school storage.
"Meeting Dr. Sun” has been an award winner in several film festivals, including the Grand Prix & Audience Award from the 2015 Osaka Asian Film Festival. Utilizing an exceptionally humorous method to describe the story driven by two dopey students, the movie is always greeted with laughter during screenings.
The Asian Pop-Up Cinema series, founded by Chicago-based, Hong Kong-born entrepreneur Sophia Wong Boccio, was launched to showcase contemporary Asian films. It will run from Sept. 16 through Dec. 4 this year. Find out more at www.asianpopupcinema.org.
