Taiwanese artists seize the moment in NYC

Artwork reflecting the latest development of contemporary art in Taiwan will be shown in New York City from Sept. 27 through Nov. 23. The international collaboration is part of the Taiwan and America Art Festival in New York.

Co-curated by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei (MoCA Taipei) and the Taiwan American Art Council (TAAC), "THE MOMENT - Contemporary Taiwanese American Arts” will be presented in two segments ― a site-specific project and a themed group exhibition.

Featuring ten artists from Taiwan, plus forty New York-based Taiwanese artists, "THE MOMENT” is not only an artistic reunion but also a large-scale project that combines international collaboration among museums, cities, and artists from different disciplines.

In particular, the collaboration will highlight creative ways of using ordinary objects, including:

  • Chang Ya-hon's (張耀煌) contemporary ink paintings and sculptures;
  • Lee Kuang-yu's (李光裕) bronze sculptures;
  • Yu Wen-fu's (游文富) installations of bamboo sticks-and-feather paintings;
  • Candy Bird's (糖果鳥) graffiti and installations;
  • Huang Zan-lun's (黃贊倫) video and acrylic paintings;
  • Wang Hsiao-hua's (王曉華) ready-made objects and mixed media works;
  • Lin Pey-chwen's (林珮淳) new media installations;
  • Don Don Houmwm's (冬東侯溫) video installations;
  • Yeh Yi-li's (葉怡俐) performance and installations;
  • Hsu Wei-hui's (徐薇蕙) sculptures made with facial masks.

The site-specific project will take place at Flushing Meadows Corona Park from Sept. 27 through Nov. 23, while the themed group exhibition will take place at the Tenri Cultural Institute of New York from Oct. 2 to 28.
