Taiwan, Thailand museums co-organize workshop 'Museum Academy Plus'

With the assistance of the Cultural Division of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, National Taiwan Museum (NTM) and Museum Siam co-organized the three-day "Museum Academy Plus" workshop and lecture in Bangkok from Nov. 1 to 3. During the event, representatives from NTM and the museums of Thailand exchanged views on how to introduce the concept and practice of sustainable development into the curation process.

The acting chief of the research division Hsu Yu-chwen (許毓純) and exhibition coordinator Kuo Chao-ling (郭昭翎) of NTM shared their curating experience on sustainable issues; while the President of the Office of Knowledge Management and Development Dr. Twarath Sutabutr shared how Thailand promotes sustainable development from the aspect of energy.

"Museum Academy" is a professional training project hosted for museum workers in Thailand by Museum Siam. Director-general of the National Discovery Museum Institute (NDMI)Rames Promyen stated that the "Museum Academy" has been a platform for archivists and curators to exchange experience and knowledge and expressed his expectation for "Museum Academy Plus" as well as the participation of partners from Taiwan.

The director of the Cultural Division Joanne Tien (田又安) hoped participants would benefit from the workshop and that more cultural exchange events between Taiwan and Thailand will be held in the future.

Museum Siam is operated by the NDMI and is under the direct administration of the Office of the Prime Minister. It is also one of the museums in Thailand with the strongest capacity and has worked in close cooperation with Taiwan museums. Back in 2018, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Museum Siam and the NTM, then a special exhibition on tattoos of the Taiwanese indigenous tribes was co-curated in 2019 in Thailand.
