Tokyo | 'The Moment – Fifty Years of Golden Horse'

Taiwanese director Yang Li-chou (楊力州) shared his filming experiences at the Tokyo premiere of "The Moment - Fifty Years of Golden Horse (那時.此刻)” on Nov. 14.

Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards is one of the most prestigious film awards in the Chinese-language world. To celebrate 50 years of the awards, director Yang told the history of Chinese-language film and the Golden Horse Awards through the documentary film.

Held at the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo, the event featuring film actress Lee Teng-hui (李登惠), Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival representative Yano Kazuyuki (矢野和之), and Japanese subtitle translator Akiyama Tamako (秋山珠子) attracted roughly 100 fans to the film premiere.

Director Yang expressed his appreciation for the Ministry of Culture's support in the filmmaking process, which allowed him to record the history and society of Taiwan from the perspective of the Golden Horse Awards. Yang also noted that working with veteran actors and actresses during the film shootings had enriched his professional life.

The Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo hosted 7 literature-and-film forums throughout October and November, with Taiwanese writers, cartoonists, scholars, and directors flying to Japan to promote the literature, film, and culture of Taiwan. In addition, films from the Cinema Toolkit, an online Taiwanese film archive set up by the Ministry of Culture, were selected to introduce Taiwanese culture through film screenings.
