Taiwanese cartoonist Ray (雷) has been chosen as a resident artist at bd BOUM - Maison de la bd (House of the Comic Strip) 2021-2022. She will reside in Blois city in the Centre-Val de Loire region of central France for three months starting from this November.

Ray is a narrative artist and illustrator. Her works explore the human-land relationship, fragmented musings of surroundings and original idea of "inner-landscape." She has received the Reader's Choice Award at the Original Comic and Script competition in 2020, and was shortlisted for the 11th Golden Comic Awards. In addition to graphic design creation, Ray also published her works on magazines and online comic platforms, including "Intertidal (此岸.彼岸)" and "The Bosom Stone (石之心)."

Ray's residency project will be a collection of five short stories. Each story is centered on a specific natural theme, conveying the importance of symbiosis between mankind and the environment from an artist's point of view.

The residency program, now in its third year, selected comic artist Ho Hsueh-yi (何學儀) and Stellina Chen (陳筱涵) as its Taiwanese artists-in-residence of 2018 and 2019. It is part of a cooperative pact between the Ministry of Culture and bd BOUM - Maison de la bd, organizer of the famed bd BOUM Comics Festival. The Ministry will cover travel and residency expenses, while bd BOUM will provide accommodation and studio facilities.

Founded in 2015, Maison de la bd is one of France's premier institutions for cultivating the next generation of comic artists. Residents are given space to work on their creations and learn from others in the industry. In addition to the current exhibition and a collection of comic books and documents related to the history of comics, it conducts classes or workshops, and author's signing sessions from time to time.
