Taiwanese artists participated in ART CAPITAL 2022

The yearly unmissable gathering for artists and talents in France, the ART CAPITAL (藝術之都), was held at the Grand Palais from Feb. 16 to 20. More than 650 artists from the fields of painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and others were selected by a jury composed of the Society of French Artists, Society of Independent Artists, and others to participate in the event.

A total of 9 Taiwanese artists participated this year, including Guo Yu-jen (郭豫珍), Diver (潛水夫), PingYu (邱秉御), Chuang Hui-chi (莊惠祺), Zhong Sha-ti (鍾莎媞), Ku Chi-chun (辜琪鈞), Tami Kuo (郭欣昀), Miss. Noodle (王子麵) and Chang Yu-jen (張瑜珍).

Due to the pandemic, Taiwanese participating artists could not attend the event in person. However, Taiwan's Representative to France Francois Chih-chung Wu (吳志中) visited the ART CAPITAL together with the members of the Forum of Foreign Cultural Institutes in Paris and expressed congratulations on behalf of Culture Minister Lee Yung-te.

In 1667, according to the wishes of Louis XIV, French famous painter Colbert created the Society of French Artists for the King. The society adopted its current name: the Society of French Artists in 1881 and today it boasts several hundred members who are painters, sculptors, printmakers, and others. Since 1901, every year, except for some interruptions due to wars or reconstruction work, the Salon has been held at the Grand Palais in Paris.

Built for the Universal Exhibition in 1900, the Grand Palais is one of the renowned exhibition venues in Paris. Since 2021, the Grand Palais has been renovated, and the Council of Paris specially set up a temporary exhibition space in the Field of Mars in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, where this year’s salon was held.
