Chang Li-yeh (張立曄), a Taiwanese artist best known for the themes of distortion and exaggeration in his paintings, held a solo exhibition in Paris titled "Metamorphosis.”

Chang started his career as a commercial painter and illustrator for the print industry. The turning point in his life was when a typhoon-triggered mudslide nearly swallowed his mountainside workshop in Hsinchu County. Shocked by the capriciousness of the incident, the 40-year-old decided to find a more meaningful way of life.

The Chiayi native focuses on the "inner energy” of human life, using plants and especially trees to convey spiritual progress. His oil paintings are replete with transcendent motifs such a single lone figure bathed in light, or the radiance of energy from a flowering plant.
