Milan | 'ICOM Milano 2016: 24th General Conference'

Taiwan joined the 24th International Council of Museums triennial conference held from July 4 through 9 in Milan to explore the relationships between museums and cultural landscapes.

Featuring the theme "Taiwan-A Living Museum,” the Taiwan Pavilion showcased several museums in Taiwan through multimedia installations that presented diverse content encompassing the island's daily life, marine resources, history, cultures, beliefs, and landscapes.

Through eight sub-committee conferences, Taiwanese delegates also published twelve articles and research papers on Taiwan's museums and cultural landscapes, which explored issues such as a museum's responsibilities, as well as strategies for a museum's collections, exhibitions, and audiences.

An international tea party was held in the Taiwan Pavilion on July 5 and roughly 200 museum professionals joined the event, including Director Hans-Martin Hinz and General Secretariat Amelie Zanetti of ICOM; Deputy Director In-Kyung Chang of ICOM, South Korea; Director Valeria Suruceanu of ICOM, Moldova; and other directors from ICOM-related organizations.

The Taiwan Pavilion then held a series of events, including a forum hosted by Fang Hui-shih (方慧詩) from the National Taiwan Museum. She also delivered a keynote speech on world oceans and sustainability.

The Pavilion also hosted events featuring Taiwanese tea culture to introduce Taiwanese tea, tea ware, and rituals through live demonstrations and tea-tastings. These tea ceremony sessions attracted many participants at the conference.
