The leading writer of Taiwan's queer literature - Chi Ta-wei (紀大偉) - joined Utopiales, an international science fiction festival at Nantes, on Oct. 29 to introduce his newly released French edition of "Membrane (膜).”

"Membrane” is part of the Taiwan Fiction series from France's world literature publishing house L'Asiathèque. Set in a fictional undersea world, Chi's story is intertwined with film and drama elements that explore gender issues, human nature, and self identity along with sociological, philosophical, and ecological concepts.

Chi shared his ideas on identity, sexuality, LGBT, science fiction, and queer literature in three forums held in Paris, Nantes, and Lyon. He also attended a book-signing session held at the French capital.

Gwennaël Gaffric, the lead translator on the French edition of "Membrane,” noted that the Taiwan Fiction series select works that explore international concerns, such as environmental challenges, dialects and cultural identities, colonialism, globalization, and sexual orientation, from a Taiwanese perspective.
