Construction begins for Kaohsiung pop music center

Premier Jiang Yi-huah, Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai, and Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the Maritime Cultural & Popular Music Center on March 3, 2014.

The Ministry of Culture has budgeted US$178 million for the new national-level landmark located by the Pier No. 14 of Kaohsiung Port. The center will compliment the cultural scene of southern Taiwan when it is completed in 2015.

Surrounded by a beautiful bay, the Maritime Cultural & Popular Music Center will include venues that offer between 5,000 and 10,000 seats. It will also offer six live houses to support Taiwan’s independent musicians and bands.

Pop music is one of the best reflections of Taiwan’s rich culture. With its desirable location by the sea and Kaohsiung City’s unique features, the Maritime Cultural & Popular Music Center is set to become a world-class attraction that will enhance the general public’s appreciation of pop music and cultural events.
