Visual arts pave the way for cultural dialogue

Many visual arts groups in Taiwan may be hidden in city corners, but they remain full of creative energy, shining and pulsating with passion for the arts. Moreover, Taiwan’s young artists often create art with a different perspective than those of modern art in Europe and the United States, thus paving the way for further cultural dialogue. To gain a deeper understanding of local visual arts groups and their environment, Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai embarked on such a visit on July 8.

VT Artsalon, an art gallery in an alley on Taipei City’s Xinsheng North Road, is the home base of a visual arts group that has adopted a particular business strategy. VT curators invite independent artists from mainland China, South Korea, Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan to present free-flowing ideas that transcend national borders, ethnicities and genders. The venue also serves as a business-matchmaking platform for visual artists.

The Ministry of Culture is also pushing for the global deployment of Taiwan’s cultural products, including the promotion of Taiwan’s visual arts in Southeast Asia and Central and South America. Lastly, the Ministry will also establish a mechanism to distribute cultural resources among visual arts groups and to boost the visibility of Taiwan’s arts on the world stage.
