Ministry launches campaign to promote local films

Following the establishment of the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, a subordinate agency of the Ministry of Culture, a joint promotion campaign has been launched for the 15 Taiwan-made motion pictures slated to be released in the second half of the year. The campaign is aimed at encouraging local filmgoers to go watch Taiwanese movies in theater.

At the press conference on June 13, Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai remarked that these 15 local productions prove that the Taiwanese film industry is far from being overly reliant on the government, while director Zero Chou stressed the importance of moving beyond homogenous productions and producing unique featured content.

The 15 films included in the Ministry’s joint promotion campaign cover a wide range of themes, including teenage aspirations, romance, fantasy, transgender issues and even time travel. Many veteran directors and popular entertainment figures will also participate in the campaign to help raise awareness for Taiwanese films.
