Taiwanese dancers well-received by French audiences

With the assistance of the Taipei Cultural Center in Paris, five Taiwanese performance groups participated in the 2013 OFF Festival d’Avignon in France. This year marked the seventh year of Taiwan’s participation in the famed summer festival, which ran from July 8 to 31.

The Taiwanese groups who were invited to perform in France were choreographer Ting-Ting Chang’s (張婷婷) T.T.C.Dance, Theatre De La Sardine (沙丁龐客劇團), Shakespeare’s Wild Sisters Group (莎士比亞的妹妹們的劇團), Freedom Beat (自由擊) and MIX Acrobatics Theater (MIX舞動劇坊).

The Taiwanese performers were lauded by the host country’s local media outlets, such as French TV station France 3 and Radio France International, as well as French newspapers Le Figaro, Liberation and La Provence.

Because of Taiwan’s growing popularity in the Paris-based arts festival, the Taipei Cultural Center in Paris said it will continue to work with major French arts festivals and institutions to help Taiwanese art groups obtain more performance opportunities.
