Preserving the traditional art of cake-mould carvings

Cakes have always been considered a celebratory item, presented at each important stage of life – from birth and marriage to death. Tsai Rong-hsing, a second-generation maker of traditional cake moulds, has been practicing his craft for 45 years. As one of the masters left in Taiwan who continues to carve cake moulds by hand, Tsai is tasked with passing on his precious know-how lest the traditional craft be lost forever.
