The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, in partnership with the Filmoteca de Catalunya, co-organized the “Edward Yang. Quatre històries taiwaneses (Edward Yang: Four Taiwanese Stories)" film festival, scheduled to run from Sept. 12 to 24. The Filmoteca de Catalunya has curated a selection of four films, including "Story of Time (光陰的故事)," "Terrorizers (恐怖份子)," "Yi Yi (一一)," and "Taipei Story (青梅竹馬)."

Additionally, on Sept. 12 and 13, Chen Pin-chuan (陳斌全), the current director of the Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K. and former director of the Taiwan Film & Audiovisual Institute, will conduct two lectures with an aim to raise awareness of Taiwanese cinema among both professionals in the Spanish film industry and the general public by offering expert insights.

Director of the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain Augusta Chang (張祐瑄) stated that this year marks the first-ever collaboration between Taiwan and a venue dedicated to film professionals under the Catalan government. Yang's film "Yi Yi" was screened in Spain in 2001 and received widespread acclaim. Acknowledging the director's worldwide acclaim and the significance of his films, especially considering that several of Yang's films have been recently restored, the Filmoteca de Catalunya reached out to the Cultural Division and proposed collaborating on a film festival dedicated to Yang.

The film festival will feature four iconic films directed by Yang, with a total of 8 screenings and 2 film lectures scheduled.

Yang is regarded as one of the leading directors of the New Taiwan Cinema. His accolades include the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival, a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Horse Awards, and recognition for Best Film from the National Society of Film Critics in the United States, among other honors.
