Taiwanese art team participates in Japan’s Oku-Noto Triennale 2023

The Oku-Noto Triennale 2023 is now open, presenting Taiwanese art team Luxury Logico’s (豪華朗機工) installation, "Home Whispering (家靜)." Held in the Suzu City of the Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, this Triennale is curated by famed curator Fram Kitagawa (北川富朗), working in conjunction with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan.

The Oku-Noto Triennale 2023 is the first art festival curated by the Japanese curator since pandemic restrictions were lifted. Members of Luxury Logico, including Chang Geng-hwa (張耿華), Lin Kun-ying (林昆穎), Chen Yi (陳乂), went to Japan earlier in September to work on their installation "Home Whispering." They also joined the opening ceremony with artists from around the world.

Luxury Logico stated that "Home Whispering" is constituted of 520 pieces of roof tiles. They are concerned by the disappearance of local tiles factories due to out-migration and industry decline. By employing roof tiles that symbolically represent "home," the team hoped that this installation is able to inspire people to reconnect and open up new horizons. The local Suzu community also played an important role in this creation by gathering discarded and spare tiles.

Striving to be a pioneer of art in the remote region, the Oku-Noto Triennale also aspires to revitalize local communities through art festivals. This year marks the third edition of the Triennale, with an impressive display of artworks by 59 artist groups from 14 countries. The Oku-Noto Triennale 2023 is open now until Nov. 12.
