Taiwanese crafts to join Hangzhou expo

Eleven craft businesses from Taiwan will join the 2015 Hangzhou Cultural and Creative Industry Expo this October to present the excellent craftsmanship of Taiwanese artisans.

The annual exposition is one of the main cultural events in mainland China. Slated for an Oct. 15 opening, the 5-day affair expects to have roughly 250,000 visitors this year. There are 6 exhibition sections, and one of them will feature Taiwan's art and culture.

Led by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI), the craft businesses of Taiwan will be presenting the concepts of craft arts for the daily life with Taiwan-made designs that span naturally dyed products, ceramics, wooden furniture, stone crafts, carved artworks, accessories, stationary, and tableware.

Yii, a collaborative brand established by the NTCRI, will also take part in the exhibition. The collection includes "Wave,” a curvaceous bamboo chair designed by Brazil's Campana brothers and crafted by Taiwanese artisans Yeh Ji-hsiang (葉基祥), Lee Rui-ke (李瑞科), and Lin Jian-cheng (林建成).

In addition, Lu Min-hua (盧敏華) from the Association of Taiwan Tea will be performing a tea ceremony as part of the exhibition. The performance will allow audiences to see how exquisitely crafted tea sets will elevate the art of drinking tea.
