The Taiwan Cultural Festival in Hong Kong will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year with a series of performances, seminars, workshops, and creative markets featuring over 70 groups of creative professionals.
Organized by the Kwang Hwa Information and Culture Centre, the festival titled "Thinker, Player, Dreamer” will take place from Oct. 8 through Nov. 14 across Hong Kong.
Celebrating the themes "Sparkling Virtuosity” and "Emerging Creativity,” Ateliea Tea (不二堂) from Taiwan will open the festival with four days of tea culture demonstrations and cocktail parties from Oct. 8 through 11.
A catwalk show titled "Life in HONG Silk” by top Taiwanese fashion designer Sophie Hong (洪麗芬) will be presented on Oct. 16. The special occasion will fuse Nanguan music, electronic erhu performances, and Taiwanese hand-puppet theater.
Taiwan's Godot Theater Company (果陀劇場) will also stage "Our Town (淡水小鎮),” an adaptation of Pulitzer-winning playwright Thornton Wilder's play, at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on Oct. 23 and 24.
On Nov. 1, the National Symphony Orchestra will hold a grand performance and a lecture discussing "What is Composition? The Musical Murakami Haruki.” Renowned Taiwanese folk singer Ara Kimbo (胡德夫) will then collaborate on stage with The Chung Brothers (鐘氏兄弟) on Nov. 3.
Theater and music troupes from Taiwan and Hong Kong will also be performing in collaborative music series, workshops, and concerts. The lineup includes Nanguan musician Wang Xin-xin (王心心), Voco Novo A Cappella Group (爵諾人聲樂團), Sun Son Theatre (身聲劇場), and Hakka singer Lo Si-rong (羅思容).
In addition, Campo, a creative market based in Taiwan for young artists to promote their brands, will open a creative market from Oct. 9 through Nov. 11. Several young professionals will also travel to the market to host seminars on contemporary creative content and entrepreneurship during the festival.
