Excellent Taiwanese crafts set for Crafts Bangkok 2018

The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) will lead the Association of Taiwan Crafts Workshop (台灣工藝之家協會) to join Crafts Bangkok that runs from March 29 through April 1 in Thailand.

Under the banner “Taiwan Excellent Crafts,” the association will bring a wide range of crafts that integrate traditional and modern elements to expand into international markets and deepen cultural ties with Southeast Asian countries.

The lineup to the craft fair this year includes Lin Kuo-lung (林國隆), the third generation owner of Nantou-based Shuili Snakekiln; wood-carving artist Chen Chi-tsun (陳啟村) of Chi-Tsun Sculpture Studio (啟村雕塑工作室); fiber expert and artist Chen Ching-lin (陳景林) of Tennii Taiwan Natural-Dyeing Studio (天染工坊); ceramist Li Ming-song (李明松) of Loto Craft Workshop (老土藝術工作室); and designer Lee Pei-yuan (李培源), who is familiar with the Southeast Asia market.

In addition to showcasing Taiwan-made and Taiwan-designed ceramics, sculptures, and naturally dyed products, the Taiwan artists and designer will exchange ideas and knowledge with buyers and visitors at the Bangkok exhibition.

Taiwan initiated the New Southbound Policy to strengthen ties with its Southeast Asian neighbors. In the past three years, Taiwan has participated in the International Innovative Craft Fair in Thailand, Taiwan Expo in the Philippines, and International Furniture Fair Singapore to introduce its crafts to Southeast Asia.

Organized by the SUPPORT Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (SACICT), Crafts Bangkok is an extended fair of the International Innovative Craft Fair that was launched in 2012.

Under the theme “Social Craft Network,” the fair will offer nine sections, including “Theme Area,” “International Cooperation Area,” “SACICT Alliances,” “About SACICT,” “Royal Projects,” “Local Craft Network,” “Hand to Hand,” “Smart Craft,” and “Craft the Future.”

The Taiwan booth will be featured at the “International Cooperation Area” section.

A partnership agreement signing ceremony between the SACICT and NTCRI will also be held at 2pm on March 29 as part of the fair’s grand opening at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre.
