Chimei Museum to host exhibition on masterpieces from London’s National Gallery

The Chimei Museum in Tainan, in collaboration with the National Gallery in London, is set to host an international exhibition titled “Masterpieces from the National Gallery, London” from May 2 to Sept. 1. The exhibition will showcase 52 artworks, selected from the gallery’s collection of over 2,300 paintings spanning from the 13th to the 20th century.

Featured in the exhibition are pieces by renowned artists such as the Renaissance master Raphael, the Dutch maestro of light and shadow Rembrandt, and the influential Post-Impressionist Van Gogh, among others.

Highlighting the significance of this event, the Chimei Museum noted that it marks the first time for the National Gallery to lend paintings to a Taiwanese museum since its establishment in 1824, representing a historic event that only takes place once in a lifetime.

The museum said that it aims to provide visitors with a comprehensive history of Western painting spanning over four hundred years, from Renaissance artworks to Post-Impressionism creations, by showcasing representative pieces from various periods and styles.
