George Town Festival hosts ‘Isle to Isle’ program, enhancing Taiwan-Malaysia tie

The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia (TECO), in collaboration with the George Town Festival (GTF) in Penang, Malaysia, is hosting the “Isle to Isle (島嶼島)” program at the GTF from July 19 to 27.

“Isle to Isle” is an initiative that celebrates the friendship between the islands of Taiwan and Penang. First launched in 2018, it has been part of GTF’s official program ever since. Through collaborative efforts with the TECO, “Isle to Isle” brings outstanding artists and their works to GTF, to promote dialogue and exchange with the people of Penang and beyond.

Featured in the program are the “Double Bill of Jingju Magic (魔幻雙齣)” by the renowned GuoGuang Opera Company (國光劇團), showcasing “Avenging Zidu (伐子都)” and “Zhuangzi Tests His Wife (試妻劈棺)”; a mini version of “Close to You Festival (超親密小戲節)” by the Flying Group Theatre (飛人集社劇團); and the “Southeast Asian Choreolab (東南亞編舞工作坊),” guided by noted Taiwanese choreographer Ho Hsiao-mei (何曉玫), bringing 14 emerging choreographers from eight Southeast Asian countries to Penang to live, work, and explore together.
