Northern Alps Art Festival in Japan features Taiwanese artist Yu Wen-fu

The Northern Alps Art Festival in Japan, running until Nov. 14, was inaugurated in Omachi City, Nagano Prefecture, and features 38 groups of artists from 11 countries and regions.

Taiwanese artist Yu Wen-fu (游文富) was invited by the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo and the festival organizers to showcase his work “The Wave of Bamboo (竹波).” This installation piece was featured in “Discover Japan,” a renowned travel magazine, marking the first time a Taiwanese artist has received such recognition.

On Sept. 12, the festival held a workshop centered on Yu Wen-fu, where he shared the conception of “The Wave of Bamboo” with approximately 20 Japanese students. Yu noted that the installation, using over 600 pieces of bamboo, is the result of the collaboration from both Taiwanese and Japanese participants.

This year, the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo has continued its partnership with various Japanese festivals such as the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial, the Northern Alps Art Festival, and Roppongi Art Night, bringing 11 groups of Taiwanese artists to Japan. The center aims to further expand its collaboration with Japanese art festivals.
