The Ministry of Culture (MOC) will host a Taiwanese manga exhibition titled “Blossom (-BLOSSOM-台漫満開.百花繚乱)” in Japan from Oct. 11 to 27. The exhibition, which showcases a diverse range of Taiwanese manga, will be held at two locations: the Kadokawa Culture Museum and the Animate Ikebukuro Flagship Store.
During a press conference on Oct. 7, Culture Minister Li Yuan said that the ministry aims to bring Taiwanese manga into a new height between 2018 and 2027. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to supporting the growth of Taiwan’s manga industry.
At the Kadokawa Culture Museum in Saitama prefecture, the exhibition will feature ten Taiwanese manga works recognized by Japan’s International Manga Award, alongside 40 Taiwanese Manga IPs, including adaptations for dramas, broadcasts, and board games.
Meanwhile, at the Animate Ikebukuro Flagship Store, 13 outstanding BL (Boys’ Love) and GL (Girls’ Love) works will be showcased. The MOC highlighted that since Taiwan’s legalization of same-sex marriage in 2019, the gender-equal society has provided more space for the development of Taiwanese BL and GL mangas, which increasingly draw the attention of Japanese readers and publishers.
