The Bangkok Art Biennale 2024 opened on Oct. 24, with support from the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Thailand and the Thai art gallery Nova Contemporary. Taiwanese artist Cole Lu’s (呂咅彧) work, “The Engineers,” is featured at this year’s biennale.
Themed “Nurture Gaia,” the biennale runs until Feb. 25, 2025, across 11 venues in Bangkok, including Wat Pho, Wat Arun, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Museum Siam, and others.
Born in Taiwan and educated in the U.S., Cole Lu has held solo exhibitions in cities such as New York, London, Munich, and Taipei. Lu’s “The Engineers,” currently exhibited at Wat Bowon, reflects a rich blend of cultural and historical influences.
Kuei Yeh-chin (桂業勤), head of the Cultural Division at TECO in Thailand, remarked that this marks the first participation of Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture and TECO in Thailand in the Bangkok Art Biennale. Kuei expressed hope that this step will lead to more opportunities for Taiwan-Thailand cultural exchange.
