With the support of Ministry of Culture, the EX-Theatre Asia has been selected to participate in Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM), the flagship international theatre festival organized by India’s National School of Drama (NSD). Set to take the stage in February 2025, this invitation marks a significant milestone for Taiwan’s presence in the Asian theatre landscape.
This production of Karna is directed by Chongtham Jayanta Meetei, an Indian-born director who has resided in Taiwan for nearly two decades. Collaborating with esteemed Taiwanese dan performer Chao Hsin and artists from both Taiwan and India, the production offers a compelling original work enriched with cross-cultural dialogue and contemporary artistic perspectives.
Inspired by the legendary figure Karna from the Indian epic Mahabharata, the production explores themes of fate, loyalty, and identity—universal concerns that resonate across cultures.
The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India expressed that EX-Theatre Asia’s invitation to Bharat Rang Mahotsav underscores the global recognition of Taiwan’s theatrical ingenuity and serves as a landmark occasion for Asian theatre cultural exchange. Furthermore, this collaboration strengthens Taiwan-India cultural ties and opens new avenues for future international artistic partnerships.
