‘Formosa Orchids Blossom’ exhibition in Tokyo

The National Museum of History (NMH) is collaborating with the University Museum of the University of Tokyo (UMUT) to present the exhibition “Formosa Orchids Blossom (臺灣蘭花百姿),” which was launched at the Intermediatheque on Feb. 15. The exhibition is divided into two parts: the first part is taking place in Tokyo from Feb. 15 to June 8, while the second will be held in Taipei during the summer.

“Formosa Orchids Blossom” highlights Taiwan and Japan’s research on orchids in Taiwan and introduces Japanese scientists who made significant contributions to orchid studies in Taiwan. The exhibition also spotlights the Tsou Indigenous people’s orchid culture and the ways in which Han Chinese appreciate orchids.

NMH director Hung Shih-yu (洪世佑) noted that NMH, emphasizing openness, inclusivity, and innovation, has been working together with UMUT to display and interpret the collections of both museums, aiming to enhance public appreciation of art and knowledge.

The Taipei edition of “Formosa Orchids Blossom” will open at NMH starting July 8. This exhibition will trace Taiwan’s orchid culture back to the 17th century, offering visitors insights into the special connection between Taiwan and Japan through orchids and their historical significance.
