Invited by the Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo, artist Wang Wen-chih (王文志) is presenting his artwork “Embrace・Shodoshima (擁抱小豆島)” at the Setouchi Triennale 2025 in Japan, which runs until May 25 during the spring session.

The Setouchi Triennale is an internationally renowned art festival held every three years in Japan’s Setouchi region, attracting about one million visitors from Japan and abroad. This edition features 256 artworks from 37 countries.

Wang noted that his featured work, composed of 4,000 bamboos, was created through the concerted efforts of his team, international volunteers, and local residents over a 40-day period. He added that among the works he has exhibited at art festivals, “Embrace・Shodoshima” is his most challenging and innovative to date. The artist invites visitors to connect with the world through his creation.

Culture Minister Li Yuan said that Wang Wen-chih’s artwork exemplifies the strong partnership between Taiwan and Japan, as the work would not have been possible without the collaboration between his teammates from Taiwan and the townspeople in Japan. Minister Li noted that the Ministry’s overseas cultural centers and offices have long supported Taiwanese artists’ participation in major international art festivals, adding that they will continue to enhance the global visibility of Taiwanese art and culture.
