Taiwanese films & TV dramas to join HK's FILMART

The annual FILMART is a major platform for promoting films and dramas, forging licensing agreements, learning about market trends, and exchanging experiences and techniques. Every year, it has attracted a large number of film distributors, production companies, investors, and film curators.

To help introduce Taiwanese films and dramas to the international community, the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development (BAMID) will showcase works by Taiwanese filmmakers and production companies through the Taiwan Pavilion under the twin themes "Taiwan Cinema” and "Taiwan Television.”

This year, a total of 61 Taiwanese film and TV production companies, including BULKY Animation Studio (大腕影像股份有限公司), Jnana Studio (本覺創意有限公司), Light + Shadow Films (光和影映像股份有限公司), White Rabbit Entertainment, Inc. (兔將創意影業股份有限公司), and Solvfx (索爾視覺效果有限公司) will join the trade fair.

BAMID Director Hsu Yi-chun (徐宜君) expressed her hopes in helping Taiwan's audiovisual works enter international markets through FILMART, and prompting more transnational collaboration opportunities in the future.

Cast members and production crews also joined in to promote Taiwanese film and dramas, including "White Ant (白蟻:慾望謎網),” "Who Killed Cock Robin (目擊者),” and "mon mon mon MONSTETRS (報告老師!怪怪怪怪物!),” as well as "The Masked Lover (我的愛情不平凡),” "Medium Rare (三分熟),” "House of Toy Bricks (積木之家),” and "A Thousand Walls in Dream (夢裡的一千道牆).”

Producer Lai Meng-xiu (賴孟秀) of the film "White Ant” noted that the film tells the cruelest story of society and human nature. Involving a quiet bookstore clerk's uncontrollable fetish for female underwear, it won the FIPRESCI Prize at last year's Busan International Film Festival.

Directed by Cheng Wei-hao (程偉豪), "Who Killed Cock Robin” will hit the silver screens in Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia on March 31. By joining the fair in Hong Kong, the film is expected to be commercially screened in more countries, noted producer Tang Tsia-yang (唐在楊).

The most anticipated thriller "mon mon mon MONSTERS” this summer is the second directorial work by author Giddens Ko (九把刀). Centered on campus bullying, the film tells a fantasy story with unique violent montage and brutal aesthetics.

The television dramas offered through the Taiwan Pavilion will also challenge viewers' imagination with creative storylines in the genres of thriller, mystery, and suspense.

In addition, the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) will take place alongside the fair to promote outstanding Asian films. This year, "Pawns with No Return (勝利的五十塊)” by Chen Yi-jung (陳怡蓉) has been selected to participate in HAF and interact with potential investors and producers.

Meanwhile, a Taiwan-Japan co-production by Jay Chern (陳鈺杰) has entered the WIP Lab, a newly launched sub-program by HAF for assisting nearly completed films with finding post-production resources in distributing and showcasing.

Following the fair, the Hong Kong International Film Festival in April will present a special screening series called "Edward Yang, 10-Year Commemoration” to showcase seven films by the late Yang, a Taiwanese auteur who had a long-lasting impact on the development of Taiwan cinema.
