The annual Taiwan Culture Festival in Hong Kong, which is curated by the Kwang Hwa Information and Culture Centre, will return for its 11th edition this October, celebrating Taiwanese culture, food, art, and music with a refreshing lineup of events.
This year, the festival is titled “Taiwan Redesign – From Me to Us.” This theme is reflected in the 2016 posters designed by Godkidlla, a Taiwanese designer who blended the graffiti fonts that are commonly seen on Taiwan streets with the signature blue-and-red acrylic signs of Hong Kong to express the concept of mutual understanding between the two nations.
Some other highlights of the festival include the “Taiwan Redesign” installation exhibition curated by Dimension +, a digital design studio founded by Taiwanese artist Escher Tsai (蔡宏賢) and Keith Lam (林欣傑) from Hong Kong.
Their interactive installation will present the beauty of Taiwan’s eastern coast by delivering the gentle rhythm of the wind blowing from Taitung to Hong Kong through digital devices.
Then there’s “Dining in the Rice Field” project, which brings urban residents to villages to feel, understand, and create new values through a creative dinner party in rice fields. The Taiwanese initiative will be introduced to Pokfulam Village, the only traditional settlement on Hong Kong Island.
Prepared by culinary professionals from Hong Kong and Taiwan, the two-day dinner party will present Taiwan-Hong Kong fusion cuisine made from locally sourced ingredients.
“Eatopia – The Theater of Food Design,” is another cuisine-oriented event at the 2016 Taiwan Culture Festival. The Taiwanese food exhibition will deconstruct Taiwanese history in the form of theater through five dishes designed by a Michelin star chef.
